THE MANA MOANA EXPERIENCE

Dr Karlo Mila (MNZM) is the Programme Director of The Mana Moana Experience at Leadership New Zealand. The Mana Moana Experience is based on her postdoctoral research. This programme vitalises ancestral and indigenous knowledge - shared language, ethos, cultural knowledge, ideas and values - of peoples of Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa. '

Karlo is a poet, writer and researcher of Tongan and Pālangi descent. Her PhD focused on the NZ-born Pasifika population. She has won a number of poetry awards, including best first book at the New Zealand book awards. Karlo lives in Auckland with her three sons.

Mana Moana aims to explore the genius which has evolved out of Pacific peoples’ centuries of engagement with the world’s largest ocean.

Karlo will focus on the creative emergence of ‘Mana Moana’ as a 'searched for', 're-searched for', contemporary ‘way in’ to an ancient knowledge legacy.
